Thesha (Work) is a visual trip into modern day South African youth, culture experienced through the lives of two teenage friends who are battling with the hard choice of staying in school or dropping out to follow their music ambitions. However, this choice won't be easy with their everyday reality tempting them with quick money solutions, violence, sex and drugs. The question is will their friendship survive the treacherous road of entrepreneurship or will they fall through the crack system? We wanted to make a series for the kids who’ve been rejected by the formal education system, the kids who’ve been given up on by society at large, the kids who’ve stopped dreaming. We wanted to tell them that it’s a new world today, where everything is possible you just have to see it and believe it. We wanted to reignite that youthful fire inside them and remind them that they are their own greatest assets in this new digital era. Only they can get it for themselves.
